What is a Spine Surgeon?

I am a fellowship-trained Orthopaedic Spine Surgeon whose practice is devoted to helping people with neck and back problems regain as much functionality and comfort as possible.

In times gone by, both neurosurgeons and orthopaedic surgeons cared for the spine. Traditionally the neurosurgeon took care of the nerves, and the orthopaedic surgeon took care of the skeleton. As technology and knowledge have advanced extensive training is now vital to be considered expert the care of the spine. 

 As opposed to some who perform spinal surgery only occasionally (such as non-fellowship trained neuro- and orthopaedic sureons), a fellowship-trained Spine Surgeon has undertaken focused additional training in adult spinal surgery, has focused their practice solely on the care of the spine, and is considered expert in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of these complex problems.
